so i have been replying to letters from a jw friend who suddenly started writing to me after i've been out for nearly 25 years.. i have mentioned things like the poverty that pioneering causes from my own experience, worrying about having enough money to buy food.. i also said that the scrimping would have been worth it if we had been saving to buy a home or go on lovely holidays.. instead we ended up with nothing materially and we were living in a tiny rented flat when we left.. when i think of all the places i wanted to visit with my husband but couldn't because we were pioneering and had no money and now it is too late because my husband has died at the age of 54. we did get to visit some beautiful places but we ran out of time.. what i was trying to say to her was - life's too short.
stop waiting for the new system, get on with your life.
stop exhausting yourself in that religion.
MrFreeze - I forgot about the pressure to continue to pioneer. Pioneer meetings are designed specifically to keep you on the pioneer roster.
LisaRose - It is demoralizing, isn't it? And when you're removed from your emotions as any good JW is, you can't recognize that fact.

I thought I was "volunteering" to pioneer. I now realize how afraid I was not to pioneer. Threats of death due to lack of maintaining your spirituality is a strong motivator.
No one volunteers to be a slave. No matter how much they smile while pleasing the master.
JWs love laying on the guilt in order to strong arm you into servitude. Then, if and when you snap out of the BS, they'll "remind" you that, "it was your choice all along".
Didn't know you had options while you were a faithful witness now, did you? It is such a slap in the face.

Questioning Everything
Not even the slightest effort to tone down the coded language being used. The progressive-minded , as well as those who are educated and experienced in the subject have every justification to feel the sting in these GZ/TM threads.
Very disappointing, no matter which side of the courtroom you're on.

i was sent a link to a homemade video from our summer district convention, not the one i attended, but the next weekend.
it was a video of a local brother, relating his "experience" of "trusting in jehovah", and how he was blessed.. it was just about 1 short minute long.
ms harper showed it to me first, she wanted to get my comment on it before she said a word.. background: we both know this brother, he is about our age, so we know the "real" story.. anyways, his story goes like this: this experience goes back about 10 years (jeez, we must be really searching for the experiences now!).

When I was a teenager my uncle related an experience at the circuit assembly. As a result of witnessing to a co-worker, the guy, his wife and kids all had come into the truth. I asked my parents who he was talking about. Turns out he was talking about an inactive brother who'd gotten baptized before he was married with kids. And to boot, he and his wife didn't raise their kids as JWs. They rarely came to meetings and were never baptized.
He relayed the same experience about 15 years later as if it were even newer than the first time he'd related it...roflmao!
i was just remembering some jw's i was especially fond of who left the borg when i was active.
in my sincere dubbiness, i called or went to see them to beg them to reconsider because i loved them so much.
(i didn't want them to become bird food) i literally cried for them.
We were very popular in the circuit. Born in 4th gen good little dubbies. We've only had 1 visitor/ 0 phone calls. We've been out 7 years.
All of those years that we sacrificed to the borg didn't amount to much

every weekend i feel a huge relief and both hubby and i always look at each other and say "it's great not having to go to meeting huh?".
It never gets old!
we all know that the doctrine and dogma of the wts is completely false, so i'm not even going to include topics like "trinity" or "gehenna" or anything like that in my personal list.. but i'd like to see what other people list as their top five most harmful jw teachings.. #5. females in the congregation are inferior to males.. #4. you must override your personal conscience in favour of wts rules, even when you know it's wrong.. #3. shunning disfellowshippedtm and disassociatedtm individuals, without being allowed to form your own opinion or hear their side of the story, even when it is a family member or close friend, this teaching destroys families and results in far too many people taking their own lives from the agony of being rejected by the only people they have ever had relationships with.. #2. forsaking higher education, well-paid employment and planning for retirement.. #1. the no-blood rule has cost more lives since it was first introduced by rutherford than jonestown, 10 times over..
The teaching/belief that this life is not good enough to live now.

i'm not posting here to boast, but to encourage any who may have abandoned education because of the pressure as a jw, and who may feel that it's too late to return and achieve such goals.
in the 1980s i stopped halfway through my b.ed honours and accepted a dip.h.e.
